Astrophotography and NightScape Meet-Up
Dwight Dulsky who presented the Focus Ring on Astrophotography has graciously offered to help club members with night shooting and astrophotography
We will meet at the Tohickon Boat Access Area Parking Lot on the north side of the lake just off of Rt 563 (about a mile from Rt 412).
The skies there are about as dark as we can get in Bucks County. There are good open horizons all around and of course the lake is right there.
The Sun sets at 6:03 on 10/29 and will be dark by 7:00 or so. You can arrive before Sunset to take pics of the Sunset and twilight. It will get chilly after dark so a jacket, hat and possibly gloves help a lot when you’re not moving around. Lawn chairs help to give yourself a break.
Although there are preferred lenses for astrophotography, you can use whatever you have. “Kit” lenses will work, but generally those lenses are a bit “slower” with exposures. So you work with what you have. If your lens is a little slow, you can try pushing the ISO a bit.
A couple of things about Nockamixon.
– We have to follow all state park rules and regulations. The main points are: no alcohol, “leave no trace” and respect the peace and quiet.
– Tohickon Access is a PA Fish Commission 24/7 boat launch and fishing area. An occasional car may drive through and all we can do is hope they just keep on driving or else turn off their lights if they park.
– We have to stay in that area, all other parts of the park are off limits.
– There is a semi-primitive (non-flushing) restroom at Tohickon. No guarantee on its cleanliness!
