Delaware Canal Photo Hike
June 4 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
The plan is to walk across the Delaware, hike to the covered bridge on Uhlerston Hill Rd., then hike north along the Delaware River Canal to Upper Black Eddy. We will have lunch (and potentially ice cream!) at Homestead General Store (1650 Bridgeton Hill Rd., Upper Black Eddy, PA). For the stout souls we will then return hike to Frenchtown. One way hiking is about 4.5 miles. We walk slowly, this is not a speed walking event. There is a lot of stopping along the way, we are a photography group!
Folks can start the hike and return individually back to their cars at any time. Some folks just have the time to shoot the Delaware River and Covered Bridge. People can arrange with each other to “car Pool” and leave a car at the Coffee Roaster and then drive together to Frenchtown, thus only having to hike one way. Please make these arrangements between yourselves.
What is there to shoot? Delaware River and Bridge, Uhlerston Covered Bridge, old canal locks and several camel back bridges across the canal (so general landscape lens). There will be a variety of flowers and insects (macro lens). There is almost always wildlife, Eagles have been sighted along this section of the canal, hawks, bluebirds, turtles, frogs, deer, etc (telephoto lens). There are some rugged hills, trail and canal views, open fields, marshes, old buildings, farms (wide angle lens). My suggestion is to bring a lens you like, or one you want to experiment with. No need to bring multiple lenses, whatever lens you pick you will find something to shoot. A monopod or tripod can be helpful, but for a longish hike traveling light might be easier. There are lots of hand held opportunities.
If the weather is really bad (heavy or continuous rain, high wind, lightning) we will definitely try and reschedule for Wednesday the 5th to Thursday the 6th. BUT if it is just overcast or only light and intermittent rain the hike will proceed.
